As she looked out the window, Mary reminisced about days gone by. At eighty-two, she had so many precious memories, but she also had a few that caused her eyes to puddle. She thought of her children and the joy she felt when she gave birth to each one. She dabbed at her eyes with a handkerchief remembering the heartache when one of them died.
Joy surged through her heart again when she recalled the day of her baptism. Oh, what a day! She thought of her spiritual journey, and how she deepened her faith during the hard times. She reflected on the wonderful celebrations at her church and the people there who’d become her closest friends.
She thought of the many stories about Jesus she’d read to her grandchildren, explaining how Jesus has helped her through tough times. She’d shared with them how much Jesus loves them.
Ahhh, such fond memories.
Now, terminal cancer has her counting her days. Soon, she'll meet Jesus face to face. She
is surprised at herself. She isn't afraid. She feels close to Jesus and can’t wait to be with Him. She’s said goodbye to her children and grandchildren.
She looks forward to seeing her husband again. He left this earth ten years ago, and now he’s waiting for her in heaven. What a wonderful faithful man he was. In fact, he’s the one who led her to Jesus. She closes her eyes and prays.
“Jesus, when you are ready to take me, I will come, and we will dance in heaven.”
Her eyes flutter open as she hears Him answer, “It is time, Mary. Come to Me, and I will embrace you with open arms.”
Happiness fills Mary’s heart, and a smile spreads across her face. She breathes her last earthly breath, and stretches out her hand.
Jesus takes her hand in His, and leads her in their first dance together.
